Often associated with the word "cave" in our minds the darkness, bats and other horrible things, but these specifications do not apply at all to the cave Hang Dong Sun, which has become the largest cave in the world:
This spectacular cave is so large that it contains within it a vast forest and the River Gary!!
The exciting thing is that humidity inside the cave is so high that condensation leads to the formation of what looks like clouds in the sky of the cave!!

“Past the hand of dog, watch out for dinosaurs,” says a voice in the dark.


I recognize Jonathan Sims’s clipped, British military accent but have no idea what he’s talking about. My headlamp finds him, gray muttonchops curling out from beneath his battered helmet, sitting alone in the blackness along the wall of the cave.

“Carry on mate,” growls Sims. “Just resting a buggered ankle.”

The two of us have roped across the thundering, subterranean Rao Thuong River and climbed up through 20-foot blades of limestone to a bank of sand. I continue alone, following the beam of my headlamp along year-old footprints.

In the spring of 2009, Sims was a member of the first expedition to enter Hang Son Doong, or “mountain river cave,” in a remote part of central Vietnam. Hidden in rugged Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park near the border with Laos, the cave is part of a network of 150 or so caves, many still not surveyed, in the Annamite Mountains. During the first expedition, the team explored two and a half miles of Hang Son Doong before a 200-foot wall of muddy calcite stopped them. They named it the Great Wall of Vietnam. Above it they could make out an open space and traces of light, but they had no idea what lay on the other side. A year later, they have returned—seven hard-core British cavers, a few scientists, and a crew of porters—to climb the wall, if they can, measure the passage, and push on, if possible, all the way to the end of the cave.

The trail disappears before me into a difficult pile of breakdown—building-size blocks of stone that have fallen from the ceiling and crashed onto the cave floor. I crane my head back, but the immensity of the cave douses my headlamp’s tiny light, as if I were staring up into a starless night sky. I’ve been told I’m inside a space large enough to park a 747, but I have no way to know; the darkness is like a sleeping bag pulled over my head.

Alti diplomatici hanno dichiarato ad Avaaz che l’opinione pubblica gioca un ruolo chiave per incanalare il sostegno all’indipendenza. Molte persone però hanno la sensazione di non comprendere a fondo la situazione tanto da attivarsi. Avaaz ha prodotto un nuovo breve video, che racconta la vera storia del conflitto. Se saremo in tanti a vedere il video e a firmare la petizione, potremo creare un’ondata di pressione enorme e influenzare così il voto.
Troppo spesso i media non ci dicono veramente quello che abbiamo bisogno di sapere per agire. Quasi 10 milioni di persone stanno ricevendo questa e-mail e potranno guardare questo video. Se lo inoltriamo ora a un numero notevole di persone, DIVENTIAMO noi stessi i media, e possiamo determinare l’opinione pubblica. Lo scorso mese i Palestinesi hanno presentato la loro dichiarazione d’indipendenza al Consiglio di Sicurezza dell’ONU. Più di 120 paesi li sostengono, ma gli Stati Uniti respingono la proposta e hanno mandato un chiaro messaggio ai loro alleati europei: il sostegno alla legittima dichiarazione palestinese si ripercuoterà duramente nelle relazioni bilaterali. Ora tocca a noi far capire ai principali leader europei che l’opinione pubblica è in favore di questa spinta diplomatica nonviolenta e che dovremmo essere noi la base per le scelte politiche, non importa se questo farà “arrabbiare gli americani”.
Mentre la maggioranza dei palestinesi e degli israeliani vuole la soluzione del conflitto basata sui due stati, il governo estremista israeliano continua ad appoggiare la costruzione degli insediamenti nelle aree contese. E nonostante i ripetuti sforzi, i decenni spesi in negoziati di pace patrocinati dagli Stati Uniti non sono riusciti a frenare le violenze da entrambe le parti e a far raggiungere un accordo.
Proprio adesso questa dichiarazione d’indipendenza potrebbe rivelarsi la migliore opportunità che abbiamo per superare lo stallo, evitare un’altra spirale di violenza e spianare il campo da gioco tra le due parti per favorire i negoziati. Qualcuno crede ancora che non vi sia censura al giorno d’oggi? Allora perchè, se da un lato siamo stati informati su tutto quello che sta succedendo in Egitto, dall’altro i mass-media non hanno sprecato una sola parola su ciò che sta accadendo in Islanda?
Il popolo islandese è riuscito a far dimettere un governo al completo;sono state nazionalizzate le principali banche commerciali; i cittadini hanno deciso all’unanimità di dichiarare l’insolvenza del debito che le stesse banche avevano sottoscritto con la Gran Bretagna e con l’Olanda, forti dell’inadeguatezza della loro politica finanziaria; infine, è stata creata un’assemblea popolare per riscrivere l’intera Costituzione. Il tutto in maniera pacifica. Una vera e propria Rivoluzione contro il potere che aveva condotto l’Islanda verso il recente collasso economico.


Sicuramente vi starete chiedendo perchè questi eventi non siano stati resi pubblici durante gli ultimi due anni. La risposta ci conduce verso un’altra domanda, ancora più mortificante: cosa accadrebbe se il resto dei cittadini europei prendessero esempio dai “concittadini” islandesi?


Ecco brevemente la cronologia dei fatti:
■2008 – A Settembre viene nazionalizzata la più importante banca dell’Islanda, la Glitnir Bank. La moneta crolla e la Borsa sospende tutte le attività: il paese viene dichiarato in bancarotta.
■2009 – A Gennaio le proteste dei cittadini di fronte al Parlamento provocano le dimissioni del Primo Ministro Geir Haarde e di tutto il Governo – la Alleanza Social-Democratica (Samfylkingin) – costringendo il Paese alle elezioni anticipate. La situazione economica resta precaria. Il Parlamento propone una legge che prevede il risanamento del debito nei confronti di Gran Bretagna e Olanda, attraverso il pagamento di 3,5 MILIARDI di Euro che avrebbe gravato su ogni famiglia islandese, mensilmente, per la durata di 15 anni e con un tasso di interesse del 5,5%
■2010 – I cittadini ritornano a occupare le piazze e chiedono a gran voce di sottoporre a Referendum il provvedimento sopracitato.
■2011 – A Febbraio il Presidente Olafur Grimsson pone il veto alla ratifica della legge e annuncia il Referendum consultivo popolare. Le votazioni si tengono a Marzo ed i NO al pagamento del debito stravincono con il 93% dei voti. Nel frattempo, il Governo ha disposto le inchieste per determinare giuridicamente le responsabilità civili e penali della crisi. Vengono emessi i primi mandati di arresto per diversi banchieri e membri dell’esecutivo. L’Interpol si incarica di ricercare e catturare i condannati: tutti i banchieri implicati abbandonano l’Islanda. In questo contesto di crisi, viene eletta un’Assemblea per redigere una Nuova Costituzione che possa incorporare le lezioni apprese durante la crisi e che sostituisca l’attuale Costituzione (basata sul modello di quella Danese). Per lo scopo, ci si rivolge direttamente al Popolo Sovrano: vengono eletti legalmente 25 cittadini, liberi da affiliazione politica, tra i 522 che si sono presentati alle votazioni. Gli unici due vincoli per la candidatura, a parte quello di essere liberi dalla tessera di qualsiasi partito, erano quelli di essere maggiorenni e di disporre delle firme di almeno 30 sostenitori. La nuova Assemblea Costituzionale inizia il suo lavoro in Febbraio e presenta un progetto chiamato Magna Carta nel quale confluiscono la maggiorparte delle “linee guida” prodotte in modo consensuale nel corso delle diverse assemblee popolari che hanno avuto luogo in tutto il Paese. La Magna Carta dovrà essere sottoposta all’approvazione del Parlamento immediatamente dopo le prossime elezioni legislative che si terranno.


Questa è stata, in sintesi, la breve storia della Ri-evoluzione democratica islandese.
Abbiamo forse sentito parlare di tutto ciò nei mezzi di comunicazione europei?
Abbiamo ricevuto un qualsiasi commento su questi avvenimenti nei noiosissimi salotti politici televisivi o nelle tribune elettorali radiofoniche?
Abbiamo visto nella nostra beneamata Televisione anche un solo fotogramma che raccontasse qualcuno di questi momenti?


SINCERAMENTE NO.






I cittadini islandesi sono riusciti a dare una lezione di Democrazia Diretta e di Sovranità Popolare e Monetaria a tutta l’Europa, opponendosi pacificamente al Sistema ed esaltando il potere della cittadinanza di fronte agli occhi indifferenti del mondo.
Siamo davvero sicuri che non ci sia “censura” o manipolazione nei mass-media?
Il minimo che possiamo fare è prendere coscienza di questa romantica storia di piazza e farla diventare leggenda, divulgandola tra i nostri contatti. Per farlo possiamo usare i mezzi che più ci aggradano: i “nostalgici” potranno usare il telefono, gli “appassionati” potranno parlarne davanti a una birra al Bar dello Sport o subito dopo un caffè al Corso.
I più “tecnologicamente avanzati” potranno fare un copia/incolla e spammare questo racconto via e-mail oppure, con un semplice click sui pulsanti di condivisione dei Social Network in fondo all’articolo, lanciare una salvifica catena di Sant’Antonio su Facebook, Twitter, Digg o GoogleBuzz. I “guru del web” si sentiranno il dovere di riportare, a modo loro, questa fantastica lezione di civiltà, montando un video su YouTube, postando un articolo ad effetto sui loro blog personali o iniziando un nuovo thread nei loro forum preferiti.


L’importante è che, finalmente, abbiamo la possibilità di bypassare la manipolazione mediatica dell’informazione ed abbattere così il castello di carte di questa politica bipartitica, sempre più servile agli interessi economici delle banche d’affari e delle corporazioni multinazionali e sempre più lontana dal nostro Bene Comune.
